California Young Birders' Club

Bay Area Chapter: 25 members in 9 counties -- 12 field trips a year

The California Young Birders’ Club (CAYBC), founded by Elisa Yang, to further her vision to bring together young birders across the state and create a sense of community. In 2017, the Bay Area Chapter was started by Jonah Benningfield of San Francisco. The club is currently run by Eddie Monson, who joined the club at age eight and is currently in high school in San Francisco. The CAYBC has continuously gone on mostly monthly field trips to the Central Valley, Sierras, Mono Basin, Offshore, and around San Francisco Bay. If you are passionate about birds and want to learn more, CAYBC is a great way to share these experiences with like-minded community members. Learn More about CAYBC with a report by Shahla Farzan’s BirdNote episode.

Bay Area Chapter

Ran out of the San Francisco Bay Area, and open to anyone between the ages of 12-21 living in any of the counties surrounding the bay, (or beyond, if you're alright with slightly longer commutes). If you are older, join us as a mentor to help supervise field trips. The Bay Area Chapter has monthly field trips running from January to December to the Central Valley, Sierras, Mono Basin, Offshore, and all around the San Francisco Bay.

Point Reyes Birding & Nature Festival Fun Fact

The CAYBC includes two of the Festival’s youngest participants, Eddie Monson and Rajan Rao of San Francisco. Both have been attending the Festival for years with their families, and we are proud to feature this CAYBC field trip as part of the 2023 Festival.
